On the way to the north – the old gas station on the E6 (Sørkil Besinstasjon Esso)
On the way over the European route E6 this shows itself in the most different epochs. At the height of Hamarøy, two kilometers north of Ulvsvåg, there is the old ESSO petrol station, Sørkil Besinstasjon.
In 1946 she went into operation. She was in possession of a Roald Bye. To fuel the vehicle, the gasoline had to be pumped by hand via a large lever on the pump. In addition to gasoline, motorists could buy newspapers and magazines at Sørkil Bensinstasjon. Especially religious magazines were firmly in the program.
was served. Until the 1960s, the Sørkil Besinstasjon was operated. Then she closed her door. It is now in the possession of the opposite and fantastically waterfront campsite Sørkil Fjord Camping. Together with the local cultural association, this monument is lovingly maintained.
Starting point of a hiking route at Sørkil Bensinstasjon
Immediately behind the kiosk of the old ESSO petrol station, Sørkil Besinstasjon, on the E6, a small hiking trail leads to a wonderful vantage point. Shortly after the start of the path, turn right and then up the slope through the spruce forest.
Then it gets a bit steep, because from the Sørkil Besinstasjon are 400 meters to overcome. But the way is quite easy to climb. In wet or damp weather, however, you should wear non-slip shoes. The route is marked with small white signs with a hammer on it. On GPS you should not necessarily rely on this one-hour tour. You will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the peninsula Tranøy to Hamaroy.
